Gonzales has had its own stage for more than a quarter century. Ascension Community Theatre opened its first show, The Gift of Christmas, in December 1999, and the nonprofit has kept the lights on at 823 N. Felicity Ave. ever since with volunteer casts, crews and an all-volunteer board.
Last call for Misery
The current production is Misery, the stage version of Stephen King's novel about a successful novelist who is rescued from a car wreck by his self-described "number one fan," only to realize she has no plans to let him leave. It's rated R, so leave the kids at home for this one.
Four performances remain: Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 22-24, at 7 p.m., and a closing Sunday matinee on Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. Seating is reserved, and tickets are sold online through ACT's website.
A 2027 season with range
ACT has also unveiled its 2027 lineup, and it covers a lot of ground:
Death of a Salesman, Arthur Miller's American classic
Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein
Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods
Clue, the comedy based on the board game
A 1940s Radio Christmas Carol to close the year
Season ticket deadlines
Current subscribers have until Oct. 31 to renew and keep their seats. Any seats not renewed by Nov. 1 are released to the public. ACT's early-bird discount on 2027 season tickets runs through Dec. 31, so new subscribers still have time to lock in a lower price. A season package also makes a handy holiday gift for the theater lover in the family.
Why your ticket matters
According to ACT, donations make up more than 75 percent of its annual revenue, and the company also offers youth summer camps. Every ticket helps keep live theater close to home in Ascension Parish.
