Some shops are built on a business plan. Nola Rouge was built on a fresh start.
The boutique traces its roots to New Orleans. After Hurricane Katrina upended life there, the people behind it found a new home in Baton Rouge and carried a little of that NOLA spirit along. The shop has been growing ever since.
From a website to a trailer to Europe Street
Nola Rouge began as an online boutique more than 11 years ago. It later took to the road as a mobile trailer, bringing racks of clothes straight to customers. Since 2020, it has lived in a historic storefront in Beauregard Town at 522 Europe St., a few blocks from the heart of downtown.
Who it's for
The shop's promise is simple: no pressure and no judgment, just women helping women find pieces that feel right. Sizing runs from 2 to 22, and the racks mix tops, dresses, one-pieces, shoes and accessories. A recent drop included the Magazine Street Dress for $59 and the Baron Sneaker for $72.
Shoppers who care about fabric should look for Nola Rouge Natural, a collection of pieces made from fabrics that are more than 80% natural fiber.
Gifts with a Louisiana accent
Holiday lists get easier in the Local Love section, which features locally made and curated items from around the state. Many earrings land between $10 and $35, with pieces like Swamp Puppy Earrings and a Fleur De Cross Necklace. Seasonal home finds are in, too, such as a Frasier Fir pine needle luminary for $65.
Bring the girls
Beyond the storefront, Nola Rouge offers in-home styling advice, personal shopping and private shopping events built for girls' nights, birthdays and other celebrations. That makes it an easy pick for a holiday get-together.
The shop is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and closed Sunday and Monday, so plan a late-morning stop. With Small Business Saturday coming Nov. 28, this is one downtown storefront worth adding to the route.
