Lafayette has kept Parish Biscuit Co. to itself for a while. Not anymore. The Oil Center breakfast spot is now serving Baton Rouge from 220 W. Lee Drive, which puts a plate of biscuits and gravy within easy reach of LSU's south side.
Biscuits with a map built in
The menu reads a little like a Louisiana road trip. Many of the signature biscuits are named after parishes, and each one gets its own personality.
The Lafayette is a buttermilk biscuit with a fried boudin patty and Creole mustard aioli. The Evangeline stacks fried green tomato, pimento cheese, bacon, a fried egg and bacon jam. The Saint Martin goes with smoked brisket, blueberry barbecue sauce, a fried egg, pimento cheese and candied jalapeños. And the Acadia might be the most Cajun thing on the list: an open-faced biscuit topped with fried catfish, crawfish étouffée and fried crawfish.
If you'd rather keep it simple, there's a plain buttermilk biscuit with honey butter or Steen's butter, plus biscuits and gravy with your choice of sausage, tasso or country gravy. The Biscuit Two Step splits the difference with one sausage gravy biscuit and one tasso gravy biscuit.
The kitchen isn't limited to biscuits. According to the restaurant, the menu also covers brunch and lunch, with Southern staples like shrimp and grits alongside sandwiches, salads and sides. There's a separate gluten-free menu and a catering menu for office breakfasts or game day spreads.
When to go
The Baton Rouge restaurant keeps the same schedule as the original: 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. You can order online for pickup and sign up for the restaurant's rewards program on its website.
Early risers on West Lee Drive now have a reason to set the alarm a few minutes sooner.
