For one weekend in November, the drive north to St. Francisville becomes the tastiest road trip out of Baton Rouge. The St. Francisville Food & Wine Festival returns Nov. 13–15 with four ticketed events celebrating the cooking of Louisiana and Mississippi.
Friday: Visiting Chef Dinner
Restaurant 1796 hosts Rob Mistry, executive chef of Gautreau's in New Orleans, for a five-course dinner with wine pairings, cocktails and entertainment. Mistry's résumé includes Commander's Palace and Husk under Sean Brock. Seatings run from 5 to 8:30 p.m., and tickets are $195. The menu hasn't been posted yet.
Saturday: Bubbles & BBQ
This live-fire party takes over The Mallory and North Commerce downtown with barbecue pitmasters, champagne, craft beer, natural wines and regional spirits. Baton Rouge is well represented, with Iverstine Butcher and Salt Pepper Oak among the featured cooks alongside Jay Ducote and pitmasters from around the region. The Honky Tonk Chicks handle the music. General admission runs noon to 3 p.m. for $115. VIP is $145 with 11 a.m. entry, a private bar and TVs showing Saturday football.
Saturday: Jazz Brunch
At the St. Francisville Inn, brunch starts in the courtyard with cocktails, passed bites and Dixieland jazz from New Orleans' Tom Fischer Trio, then moves inside for a plated menu by executive chef Michael Dardenne. Think roasted tomato and blue crab soup, slow-braised short rib and blackberry cream cheese cobbler. It runs 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for $225.
Sunday: Grand Tastings at The Myrtles
The weekend's biggest event fills The Myrtles' grounds from 1 to 5 p.m. with more than 40 tasting stations, more than 40 wines, a craft beer and brats garden, and a spirits courtyard. The lineup includes Baton Rouge favorites like The Gregory, Ruffino's and Tallulah. Tickets are $145, or $275 for VIP.
Pick one event or make a weekend of it, but don't wait long. Tickets are on sale now.
