The Steele family has been at this for more than four decades, and the trees on Dollar Road have survived hungry donkeys, a field fire and a hurricane to prove it.
Open Thanksgiving Day
Steele's Christmas Tree Farm in Angie opens its 2026 season on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 26. Weekday hours are 2 to 5 p.m. Saturdays run 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sundays 1 to 5 p.m., and Black Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A farm with a story
Kevin and Beverly Steele started the farm in January 1979 with 1,000 Virginia pine seedlings planted by hand. That first crop did not make it, because the family's pet donkeys got into the field and ate the tops off nearly every tree. The Steeles replanted, opened to the public in December 1983 and sold about 350 trees that first year. A 1993 fire wiped out most of the fields, and Hurricane Katrina knocked trees flat in 2005. Each time, the family went back to work. In 2023, the farm was named Grand Champion by the Southern Christmas Tree Association. Kevin Jr. and his wife, Donna, run it today with the grandkids pitching in.
Picking your tree
The fields grow Leyland cypress, known for soft needles and a full, even shape, along with Carolina Sapphire and Blue Ice. Every tree is tagged with a price based on its height. Cut your own with a saw the staff provides, or choose a pre-cut tree. Crews will trim, shake, net and help load it.
Before you go
Bring gloves, boots and a vehicle with room for a fresh tree. Leashed pets are welcome. The farm takes cash and checks, and there is an ATM in the gift shop. Veterans get a discount, and a registered nurse is on standby for first aid. Groups and school field trips should call ahead to set up a guided visit.
