The East Baton Rouge Parish Library's November newsletter is packed, and most of the best stuff costs nothing. Here are the free programs worth putting on the family calendar, most of them at the Main Library at Goodwood, 7711 Goodwood Blvd.
Saturday, Nov. 7
The busiest day of the month. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the library's Special Collections Department and the National Institute for Cold War Studies are recording personal stories from people who served or deployed overseas between 1945 and 1991, timed to Veterans Day. At 1 p.m., Saturday Science brings LSU chemical engineering professor Dr. Bhuvnesh Bharti to talk about microplastics, micromachines and other particles too small to see. It's open to all ages.
At 5 p.m., the Red Stick Rhythms concert series brings gospel and jazz to the plaza stage with Wyanda Paul, saxophonist ScoSax and singer Xavie Shorts. Bring a chair. If it rains, the show moves inside to the Large Meeting Room.
Saturday, Nov. 14
Re-Wilding Fest, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., pairs the library with the Louisiana Wild Society. Expect native plants, talks on sustainable gardening and trees, and the chance to help refresh the library's native plant garden.
Wednesday, Nov. 18
At 6 p.m., Special Collections opens its second-floor archives at Goodwood for tours and a look at photographs, costumes and other pieces from the collection. GIS Day runs at the same location from 6 to 8 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 21
Game On! @ the Library runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year adds more for adults and seniors, including a hosted murder mystery room, Mah Jong and Dungeons & Dragons, alongside cornhole, croquet and giant chess. Check ebrpl.com/events for the location.
Coming up
Movies on the Plaza returns Fri., Dec. 4 at 6:30 p.m. with The Nightmare Before Christmas. All library locations close Nov. 11 for Veterans Day and Nov. 26 for Thanksgiving.
