Mike Anderson’s in Gonzales absolutely understood the Restaurant Week assignment, because when I tell you the portions are insane… I genuinely don’t know how they’re doing this. I was able to head into Ascension Parish and try the menu firsthand, and this is officially a stop I will not miss. Foodies, this one was made for you.

From the very first course, it’s clear there’s something on this menu for everyone, especially seafood lovers. The Bacon Wrapped Shrimp comes out hot and loaded with flavor, featuring four jumbo shrimp stuffed with cream cheese, jalapeño, and finished with apple jelly. The South Louisiana Crab Cake is rich and buttery, packed with lump crab and served with Creollaise. And if you’re craving comfort, the Cup of Shrimp & Mirliton Soup is soul-warming in the best way, full of Gulf shrimp, spice, and just enough cream to round it out.

The entrées are where things really get serious. The LA Combo is a seafood lover’s dream, piled high with fried stuffed crab, shrimp, oysters, catfish, Louisiana crawfish tails, and hushpuppies. The Crab Champagne features broiled mahi-mahi set over angel hair pasta and topped with jumbo lump crabmeat sautéed in a champagne butter sauce, served with garlic bread and your choice of salad or coleslaw. And then there’s the showstopper, Shrimp 7 Ways, which somehow delivers shrimp and mirliton soup, shrimp salad, boiled shrimp, Mike’s Special, fried shrimp, stuffed shrimp, and shrimp and crab au gratin all on one plate, complete with hushpuppies, garlic bread, and salad or coleslaw. The value here is unreal.

Dessert keeps the momentum going with Crème Brûlée served with fresh berries or a White Chocolate Bread Pudding made with New Orleans French bread and topped with white chocolate sauce. Both are worth saving room for, even if that feels impossible after the portions.

Beyond the food, the experience seals the deal. The service was impeccable, the food came out hot, and the atmosphere strikes that perfect balance of casual and just fancy enough to dress up a little. It’s comfortable, welcoming, and ideal for a long, satisfying meal.

This Restaurant Week menu is also available at Mike Anderson’s Prairieville location, making it even easier to take advantage of the week. If you love seafood, generous portions, and a menu that truly delivers, Mike Anderson’s in Gonzales needs to be on your list.
