BREADA's Main Street Market is anticipating a fall reopening as it finishes renovations.

Improvements to the market originally concluded last fall, but after further inspection, BREADA decided additional interior and exterior work was needed.

The state allocated $1 million to renovate the area.

“The renovation of Main Street Market is an exciting time for the downtown community,” said Darlene Adams Rowland, Executive Director of BREADA in a press release. “We took this opportunity to rethink the entire space. We improved both the flow and function, as well as how it reflects BREADA’s mission of connecting the community with local food and farmers. We’re incredibly grateful to the public for their patience and continued support throughout this process.”

These improvements took longer than anticipated, according to Rowland, but will be well worth the wait. The goal was to breathe new life back in with improved infrastructure. As the end approaches, there is hope that the renovations will foster connections and community in downtown Baton Rouge.

“While these extra steps extended the timeline, they were essential to ensuring a safe, welcoming, and sustainable space for the future,” said Rowland.

A coffee shop offering seasonal goods from local vendors just in time for fall will be the anchor for the newly renovated market, creating a “warm and inviting atmosphere for shoppers, workers, and visitors.”
