Few dishes represent Louisiana culture quite like a pot of red beans and rice. It’s comfort food, tradition, and community all served in one bowl. That spirit takes center stage this March as the Louisiana Red Beans & Rice Heritage and Music Festival returns for a full weekend celebration of music, food, culture, and family fun from March 20–22, 2026.

The festival brings together everything that makes Louisiana special, blending local flavors with a powerful lineup of entertainment and activities designed for all ages. From live music and cooking demonstrations to competitions and a children’s marketplace, the weekend is built around honoring one of the state’s most iconic dishes while celebrating the culture that surrounds it.

Music will be at the heart of the festival experience, with a lineup promising the sounds that define Louisiana. Guests can expect high-energy live bands, brass band performances, soulful R&B, Zydeco rhythms, and DJs keeping the party going throughout the day. The entertainment lineup is designed to showcase the musical traditions that make Louisiana one of the most culturally rich places in the country.

Of course, a festival centered around red beans and rice wouldn’t be complete without a little friendly competition. The Red Beans & Rice Cook-Off invites both home cooks and professional chefs to step up and prove they have the best recipe in town. Competitors will put their own spin on the beloved dish, highlighting the creativity and pride that Louisiana cooks bring to the table.

Another crowd favorite this year is expected to be the Car & Bike Extravaganza, which will feature a lineup of impressive custom vehicles and motorcycles. The showcase adds a new layer of excitement to the festival, offering visitors a chance to admire the craftsmanship and style of some incredible rides while enjoying the rest of the festivities.

Families will find plenty to keep the kids entertained as well. The festival’s Children’s Market provides a unique opportunity to support the next generation of entrepreneurs, with young vendors selling everything from artwork to sweet treats and handmade goods. It’s a fun and inspiring way to see young creatives and business minds in action.

Sunday will bring even more family fun with a Louisiana Red Beans and Rice Easter Egg Hunt in the bayou, kicking off promptly at 3:00 p.m. Parents are encouraged to arrive early so the kids can enjoy a full day of activities before the hunt begins.

Food lovers will also want to catch the festival’s cooking demonstrations, featuring talented chefs sharing their passion for Louisiana cuisine. Among them is Charlie 'The Cook' Andrews, a beloved New Orleans culinary instructor known for making classic Southern and Creole dishes approachable for home cooks. His step-by-step teaching style and deep appreciation for Louisiana food traditions have earned him a large and loyal following.

Festivalgoers will also get to experience a demonstration from Chef Rochelle, the creative force behind The Roc & Roll Experience. Known for combining bold Southern flavors with entertainment and energy, Chef Rochelle turns cooking into a full experience that blends food, culture, and community.

Education and community engagement are also part of the weekend’s programming. On March 21, the East Baton Rouge Parish Library and the Kids' Orchestra will host a special Books & Music program, celebrating the joy of storytelling alongside performances from young musicians.

The festival will also highlight sustainability by recognizing National Recycle Day on March 21. Organizers are incorporating green initiatives throughout the event, including educational booths that teach visitors what can and cannot be recycled in Louisiana, tips on reducing waste at festivals, and ways small habits can help protect the state’s bayous, swamps, and communities.

Beyond the music and food, the event will feature a marketplace filled with Louisiana small businesses selling handcrafted goods, specialty foods, apparel, and locally inspired products. It’s a chance for visitors to shop small while experiencing the creativity and entrepreneurship that thrive across the state.

At its core, the Louisiana Red Beans & Rice Heritage and Music Festival is about more than a dish. It’s about preserving traditions, celebrating culture, supporting community, and bringing people together for a weekend that feels uniquely Louisiana.
